Where Literature and a Life of Faith Connect

Book Club Small Group

About Our Group

The group is once again immersed in another interesting season of reading. Our monthly meetings of fellowship and discussion are typically held on the second Sunday of each month. Participants bring an appetizer or beverage to share.

We read all kinds of books, from fiction to nonfiction to classics to current bestsellers to books with Christian themes. We have even had authors come speak to our group about their work.

Each September we meet to decide on our selections for the year (September through June). A different member of the group leads the book discussion each month, although there is no requirement for all members to be a leader.

Curious as to what we have read in the past? See those past selections as well as our current year's selections here.

Sunday Info

This Week at SMUMC

This Wednesday we will have an Ash Wednesday service at 7 pm. Ashes are a sign of repentance and mourning. The Ashes traditionally are from Palm Sunday the year before and serve as a reminder that the joy of Palm Sunday can quickly turn to the betrayal and grief of the cross. The Ashes also remind us of the brevity of life. Let us begin the season of Lent with a clear focus on the gift of life and the correct use of that gift.
