Our Selves
(SOS) has become an important nonprofit, volunteer based
organization serving Orange County's impoverished and working poor
populations. For 30 years SOS has provided a safety net to those
needing emergency assistance. They pride themselves on fast
response time, lack of bureaucracy, and a caring response to those in
crisis. In addition, each month SOS provides ways to serve those
in need.

Here at SMUMC, we have picked the month of December to
join forces with people from across the area and take part in the SOS “Adopt
a Family” program. Each December, we are given the names of
2 - 3 families who are in need. Congregation members sign up to
buy gifts and food for family members so that they can celebrate the
holiday season. People are also needed each year to help sort the
many boxes of food and gifts at SOS so that they can be efficiently
distributed to the families.
