Did you know?
10,000
People
Die Everyday,
From Starvation,
Worldwide!

That's
hard to imagine, or even comprehend in our affluent society with so much
food. We throw any about half as much as we consume. Yet millions of
people around the world had nothing to eat today.
When was the last time you had nothing to eat
for several days?...
Probably never!

In
1989, South County
Outreach (formerly Saddleback Community Outreach) was
founded as a non-profit, non-sectarian organization providing emergency
assistance to South Orange County residents. SCO’s service area
includes all the south county cities from Irvine to San Clemente.
SCO’s Mission Statement: “Provide emergency assistance to low
income individuals and families in South Orange County in an effort to
improve and support a strong and healthy community.”
When you shop for your own families, please consider
purchasing a few extra items to support our Food Drive Ministry and
thereby helping those in need.
SMUMC Monthly Food Collection

Throughout the year, we collect a specific food item
on Communion Sunday (the first Sunday) each month. You will be
asked to bring the items forward at the appropriate time during the
service. The item will change each month and will be specified in
the 24/7 and also in the weekly all-church Email News update. The
food collected will be given to South County Outreach to help support
their ministry of reaching out to those in need in the South Orange
County.

We have moved our annual Thanksgiving food drive to
June, in order to help SCO stock the food shelves for the busy summer
months. We will collect any non-perishable food items and prefer
no glass items. There will not be a special Sunday
collection in July, since the Thanksgiving drive will last the entire
month of June.
In May, with the combined efforts of our
congregation and the preschool children, we collected 130 jars of peanut
butter! Thanks to everyone who participated we are continuing
to show God's love by supporting those in need in our community.
Of course the food of the month item listed
above is not the only food needed each and every month. These are
just specific items which are especially need that month. Visit
the South County Outreach web site Donation
page for a complete list of items that you can donate.
If you were not able to bring the food of the month on
the 1st Sunday,
you can print a suggested food item Shopping
List from SCO. After
you print the list, keep it in your car or purse , to have it handy when
doing your regular grocery shopping.
SMUMC Thanksgiving Food Drive

During the Thanksgiving Season, we collect
non-perishable items to help support South
County Outreach. SCO is a Food Bank right here in our
community. Collection barrels will be in the lobby for several weeks
around Thanksgiving. Our Annual Food Drive is an excellent way to
be in service to Christ and reach out to those in our community who are
in need of our support and love.
We encourage you to make this a family event.
Have your child help by purchasing their favorite food item for a child
who is in need. Consider having your children use some of their
allowance to purchase the items.
For the Thanksgiving Food Collection, we are asking
for Non-perishable items and
no glass for the barrels — please.
The following are commonly needed items that will
greatly benefit a family.
- Protein: Canned meats, Peanut Butter,
Macaroni & Cheese, Chili, Pasta
- Grains & Cereals: Hot & Cold cereal,
Rice, Pasta, Bread-Cake-Pancake Mixes
- Fruit & Vegetables: Canned Fruits &
Vegetables, Canned Juices, Canned Soups, canned Beans
- Dairy: Powdered Milk, Evaporated Milk, Baby
Formula
Blessings be with each one of you and thank you for
your continuous support of our Outreach Programs.
